Three times more searches for laptops, as small, powerful models sweep the board.
Visits to laptops in August confirm that small, powerful laptops are the back to school favourite, with 3 times more visits than netbooks, reveals Twenga, the new generation shopping search engine.
The two most-searched for models this August were the Dell Inspiron N5010, and the Acer Aspire 5732Z. Top screen sizes are 13” or 15”, as opposed to smaller 8”-12” netbook screen sizes. Back-to-school shoppers are after well-performing laptops of around 4GB RAM, with sizable hard-drives from 260GB to 500GB for storage. The most popular colours are purple, white, pink, orange and brown, as parents and students snap up hot deals for the new term.
Visitors to Twenga can compare over 14,000 laptops from 460 online shops.

Twenga recognised as one of the ‘100 most promising’ new technology companies

Laguna Nigel – California, 15 January 2010 - Twenga, the most comprehensive shopping search engine, has received the Red Herring 100 Global Award, awarded to the top 100 private technology companies worldwide.
In three years, Twenga has established itself in 14 countries, most recently the USA, Brazil, Australia and India. Twenga’s websites now display more than 180 million products from over 75,000 retailers and receive more than 25 million visits a month. Twenga’s key advantage remains its totally objective and neutral product results, ideal for shoppers, who are always looking for impartial price comparisons.
Twenga is able to display almost 10 times more product offers than other price comparison sites thanks to its proprietary technology automatically indexing retailer sites, and thus guaranteeing that users really find the best deal.
In awarding this prize, the Red Herring media group carefully considered 1,200 private companies, chosen from among the finalists and winners of the regional awards Red Herring 100 Asia, Europe and North America from the last three years. Criteria included financial performance, management quality, delivery on strategy and involvement in research and development. For this global prize, the judges paid particular attention to strategies and the ability to establish an international presence.
“This year was especially difficult,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “Despite the global economic situation, there were many great companies producing really innovative and amazing products that we had a difficult time narrowing the pool and selecting the finalists. Now we’re faced with the arduous task of selecting the final 100 winners of the award. We know that this year’s crop will grow into some amazing companies that are sure to go far.”
Bastien Duclaux, CEO and co-founder of Twenga said,
“We would like to thank the Red Herring Global Award judges for recognising the worldwide success of Twenga with this global award. Twenga was designed as a global company from its inception. Thanks to our pioneering technology, we have succeeded in establishing our shopping search engine in 14 countries across four continents in less than three years. This is four times faster than our competitors. We offer users greater choice, and a more objective choice. We offer retailers better return on marketing investment.”
